Ojos del Salado is the highest active volcano of the world 6893 m.s.n.m. (m.s.n.m.= meters over the level of the sea) Is located 260 Km. northeast of Copiapó. Is part of the central massif of the Andes Mountains, called Claudio Gay’s Mountains, in the border with Argentina.
This snowcapped mountain is the highest of the chilean Andes, and the third mountain top in America, being attractive and a challenge for mountaineering.

Day 1
We start the trip in San Pedro early in the morning in direction to Copiapó.
We arrive to Laguna Verde (termal spring), in there we set up the Base Camp at 4.200 mts.
Day 2
Breakfast at 8:00 am. And we go trekking at 9:00 am. For Mulas Muestas hill slope, to reach the 5.000 m.s.n.m.
3 hours round- 2 hours back, the soil has small rocks and is a very windy place.
Day 3
Breakfast at 8:30 am, we break camp and at 11:00 am. then, we leave for Atacama shelter in vehicles, at 5.260 m.s.n.m.
The expedition members have to walk from the 5.000 mts. (2 hours) to reach the shelter.
The hike will be done following the vehicle track and with an inclination about 15°, the soil is sandy and has flat rocks.
The load will be carried in the vehicles. We have lunch at 2:30pm in our camp. The afternoon is for resting.
Day 4
Breakfast at 8:30 am., we pack food and the equipment and leave to Tejos shelter at 5.837 m.s.n.m., this hike last 3 hours for a vehicle track with an inclination 20º-30º in a very sandy soil.
In the Tejos shelter, we rest for about 45 min. to return to Atacama shelter to have lunch in a hike that last 1 hour.
We will spend the night and have dinner in Atacama.
Day 5
Breakfast at 8:00am and lunch at noon, then we go with our team to Tejos shelter and spend the night there.
Every expedition member must be carrying warm clothes, sleeping bag, plastic shoes, and, if is necessary, a mountain tent.
Dinner at 7pm and accommodation in Tejos shelter, or surroundings, at 8:30 pm.
Day 6
This day we get up early and have breakfast at 4:00 am.
Climbing, the first try
(climbing to the top takes 8 hours or less).
This day is necessary to have the equipment to bear low temperatures from -25ºC to -30ºC, wind over 80 Km/h, frontal lamp for night hike, piolets, crampons to cross a slope of 35º, with 100 mts long at 6.550 m.s.n.m., every expedition member should have a personal thermo with a capacity of 1 liter (not less) to carry water.
This climb is done for a well marked track in a sandy soil, in a slope with 15º to 40º inclination. After 6 hours of hike, we arrive to volcanos crater, from there we walk to the top over big rocks, in the end of this rout is the final ascent from 30 mts to 6.860 m.s.n.m, has a 5.6 in the american scale of difficulty.
will take some hot drink, pick up our equipment and continue to Atacama shelter (about 1 hour). We will have dinner there.
Reserved Day. In case of bad weather, we can use this day to attempt the summit again.
Día 7
Breakfast at 9:00am. we break camp and return to Copiapó to take you to the hotel.
